Grinding is not full root removal
The machine works progressively through the stump and accessible surface roots included in the scope. Roots extending through the property normally remain underground and decay over time.
If construction, structural excavation or complete root removal is planned, stump grinding alone may not meet the project requirement.
Choose the depth for the next use
A shallow lawn repair and a new footing have different requirements. Tell Josh what you intend to do with the area so he can discuss a practical depth and whether the proposed outcome belongs within stump-grinding work.
Ground levels, stones and old fill can affect what the machine can safely reach.
Measure the access route
The narrowest gate, stairs, slopes and turns between the street and stump can determine which equipment is practical. Protecting paving, lawns and retaining edges also forms part of access planning.
Do not assume a machine can be lifted over a fence or carried through a house. Show Josh the complete route.
Locate underground services
Irrigation, lighting, gas, electricity, drainage, water and telecommunications may run near a stump. Property owners should disclose known services and obtain appropriate plans or locating where required.
Grinding should not proceed on assumptions about what is underground.
What happens to the grindings?
Grinding produces a mixture of wood fibre and soil. The amount can be larger than the original stump appeared. The quote should state whether material is levelled, retained or removed and what restoration is outside the scope.
Fresh grindings can settle. If the area needs a finished lawn or construction surface, further soil preparation may be required.
